Never be afraid to paint outside the lines

New photo setup

I finally have a more-or-less permanent photo setup in my apartment, which should make it a bit easier to post photos for the blog. I broke it in by taking some new photos of miniatures I painted a while ago, but never had any decent photos of. Hope you like them!

Awesome minis and photos! The photos do look a tiny bit over exposed to me though. I am not super familiar with your work nor am I an expert on photography, but I bet you could get those colors a tiny bit richer.

First off, your painting skills are off the charts! Beautiful work! This might seem like a strange request, but I was wondering if you were the one who modified this miniature? The original Studio McVey miniature has two swords. Your version here has a fan and an open hand. Did you replace the hands? If so, whee did you find those hands? Thank you!

      Thank you very much!

Actually it’s kind of a funny story, the swords she comes with are super fragile so I accidentally broke them off while painting and couldn’t find the blades! Stupid teeny resin bits. But it was all for the best, as I like the result better this way.

I replaced both hands with hands that I sculpted out of green stuff (two-part epoxy putty). The fan is sculpted out of paper, very thin wire, and green stuff. I’m not a very good sculptor, so it was slow work and required many tries to get right.
